Anti-Phishing Software – What It Is & Why You Need It

By this point in your life, you’re probably well aware that “phishing” isn’t just something you used to do with your dad for fun on the weekends. It’s a common identity theft practice in which scam artists send out fake e-mails that are disguised as being from reputable companies or individuals. You’re prompted to respond or click a link and provide sensitive information, like credit card numbers, passwords, or Social Security numbers.

You may think that you’re tech-savvy enough to spot a phishing scam a mile away, but cyber thieves are getting much more devious and advanced in their tactics. At IdentityForce, we try our hardest to keep our members and the public aware of new ways identity thieves are stealing information—but frankly, it’s more than any one person could possibly memorize and implement daily.

When you’re going about your daily life, you don’t want to have to check every single e-mail or website for typos, sketchy information, or glaring errors. You don’t have time to second guess everything you do online just in case someone is trying to trick you. It’s a lot.

This is why anti-phishing software is essential for anyone who spends any amount of time on the internet. It takes some of the pressure off of you to question every link and website and allows you to enjoy peace of mind as you surf the web.

And the best part? When you’re an IdentityForce member, anti-phishing software automatically comes as part of your membership. How does it work? We’ll give you a quick overview.

How IdentityForce Anti-Phishing Software Protects You

When you’re a member of IdentityForce, it’s easy to log in and access your main dashboard. Our anti-phishing software isn’t something that will appear on your computer automatically, though—you need to download and install it first.

Just click on the “Downloads” tab, and you will see the option to download “Online PC Protection Tools;” this includes anti-phishing software, as well as anti-keylogging software. Click “Download” under “Action,” and the software will begin downloading to your computer. Once that is done, you’ll be prompted to install it (it’s easy, we promise!).

After the protection tools are installed, this intro box will pop up on your screen and explain how the software will protect you from phishing and what you can expect:

In a nutshell, “Phish-Finder,” our anti-phishing software, works behind the scenes while you’re visiting sites across the internet. If you end up on a website that the software recognizes as being a popular phishing target, it will prevent the site from loading. Instead, you will see:

If you’re 100% sure the site isn’t part of a phishing scam, you have the option to ignore the warning and continue. However, if you aren’t completely positive, you can click “close this webpage,” and the software will do so.

In a world where phishing and cyber scams are so common, IdentityForce’s anti-phishing software makes your life a little easier, and safer.
